Jazz Lesson: Bebop Line Manipulation on Joe Henderson’s “Recorda Me”

Here’s a quick study for your practice session: Joe Henderson plays a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” line in the middle of his iconic “Recorda Me” solo (The line comes in at 1:32 above). You can get some serious mileage out of that line if you slow down and manipulate it, applying it to the series of II-V-I chords on the second half of the tune. Check out the three versions of the line and then work on applying them over the II-V-I progression in the piece. Feel free to download the PDF, too.

Happy Woodshedding!
